Pat Cash – Uncovered

Pat Cash, former Wimbledon Mens Singles Champion, answered our questions

What’s the best hotel you have stayed at and why?

It’s very hard to go past the new Buccament Bay resort in St Vincent Caribbean.  It has the true friendliness you would expect from the Caribbean (but don’t get as often as you would like). The bungalows and rooms are fantastic. Activities from Liverpool football school treks, kayaking, cave snorkelling and dive ship wrecks are all in the small bay and with restaurants being added, its going to be sensational! I’m biased though as my tennis centre is there as well. This really is an undiscovered Island.

Favourite Restaurant and what’s your favourite dish there?

It has been said by people before but Nobu and the Jalapeno yellow tail tuna and miso black cod are sensational or on the rare occasion I eat meat at night a steak from Maze Grill is very hard to beat.

Favourite ShopI’m not much of a shopper really but I would have to say the Quicksilver shop in Regents Street London or itunes or online music stores where I buy my music.

Favourite Club/pub: Not big on pubs unless there’s a band playing.  If I go out to a club in London it would be to the Wellington club in Knightsbridge. In Paris Café Le Homme has a view to die for. I feel more comfortable in a small music venue. Don’t be surprised to see me in one by myself listening but don’t even think about chatting or asking me for an autograph!

Favourite Venue and why:  Hammersmith Apollo is small enough but big enough and I’ve seen some awesome bands there over the years. Outdoor festivals are too big to see the musicians play. Or am I getting too old?

Most memorable gig and what made it so memorable?

Led Zeppelin at the O2 in London why? because its Led Zeppelin!!! and I never ever thought I would see them play live.

If you could go anywhere for a day where would it be and why…?

Grand Canyon or the Great Barrier Reef Queensland

…and what would you do there? Just look.

Where would you most like to visit that you have never had the chance and why this place?

This year I’m ticking one off and that’s Machu Picchu in Peru. I’m doing a 6 day trek for a men’s cancer charity I support. I’ve never done a long trek and I have always wanted to visit Machu Picchu and it seemed an awesome opportunity. http://www.orchid-cancer.org.uk/384/Orchid-Inca-Trail-Trek

Where did you last go on holiday? Holiday what’s that? I’m always on holiday!

What do you always take with you when you travel?

Besides the obvious stuff passport, phone, toothbrush etc I would say jogging shoes, vitamins and health products, music and spirituality books ‘A course in Miracles’ is the latest and it is what it says on the cover.

What’s your best piece of travel advice?

My latest piece of knowledge is that airlines are making money from screwing passengers on excess luggage.  Think twice about flying Jetstar in and around Australia.  Bite your lip when those smartarses in security make a smartarse comment!

What do you need for a perfect holiday? Time… I am always wishing I had a few more days to do whatever it is. Such a busy life!
